Luxury Vinyl Plank in Matthews, MO

Luxury vinyl plank is the floor we recommend most often for the rooms that actually take a beating — the entry, the kitchen, the hallway and anywhere a dog goes. It looks like wood, it is genuinely waterproof, and it goes over most existing floors without a fight. It is not, however, all the same product, and the differences that matter are ones you cannot see from the sample board. Wear layer and core type decide whether a plank still looks good in ten years, and we would rather explain that than sell you the cheapest box. Installed by our own crew across Matthews.

Luxury Vinyl Plank in Matthews

Built for Matthews homes.

Matthews is the smallest place we serve — 534 people in New Madrid County, with I-55 forming part of its eastern boundary and US-61 and 62 close by. It has had a post office since 1903 and is named for C. D. Matthews, a pioneer citizen. It sits directly between Sikeston and New Madrid, which makes it one of the easiest calls on our list to get to and one of the quickest to schedule.

Matthews had 534 residents at the 2020 census, down about 15 per cent from 2010, across just under two square miles in New Madrid County. Interstate 55 forms part of the eastern boundary, and US Routes 61 and 62 run nearby, connecting the village north to Sikeston and south to New Madrid.

Being a few minutes off I-55 between our showroom and New Madrid means scheduling here is genuinely easy. A measure can usually happen the same week, and because we pass through regularly we can drop a second sample by without making a special trip of it.

The housing is small-village stock on flat Bootheel ground: mostly single storey, mostly modest, and generally without stairs or level changes to complicate a job. That tends to make for clean, fast installs — one or two days for a typical run of rooms rather than a week.

The flat ground is the thing to watch. Fine alluvial soils across this part of the state hold moisture and settle unevenly, so even in a straightforward single-storey house we check the subfloor for flat and for moisture before recommending a click-lock plank. It is a five-minute check that prevents the most expensive kind of callback.

Matthews FAQs

Luxury Vinyl Plank in Matthews, questions

How soon could you get to us in Matthews?

Usually quickly. Matthews sits right between our Sikeston showroom and New Madrid, so we pass through often and a measure can normally be arranged within the week. Call 573-471-8700.

How long does a typical install take here?

Most houses in Matthews are single storey with no stairs, so a normal run of rooms is often one or two days once the material is in. We will give you a realistic window at the estimate rather than a best case.

Is luxury vinyl plank really waterproof?

The plank itself is, which is why it handles spills, wet boots and pet accidents without staining or swelling. Water can still get past the edges and sit on the subfloor, so a real leak still needs dealing with — but day-to-day water is genuinely not a problem.

Can you lay it over our existing floor?

Often, yes, provided what is underneath is sound, flat and dry. We check that at the estimate. Where there are already two or three layers down, we would usually take them up instead, because layering raises the floor height enough to make doors bind.

How is it different from laminate?

The core. Laminate has a wood-based core, so standing water will eventually swell it; vinyl does not. Laminate often has a crisper, more realistic surface texture and can be better value. For wet rooms we recommend vinyl; for dry rooms laminate is well worth comparing.

Does it feel cold or hollow underfoot?

It can if it is a thin plank over a hard subfloor with no underlayment. A rigid core product with the right underlayment feels solid and quiet. It is worth standing on a sample rather than judging it by hand.
