Carpet in Gideon, MO
Carpet is still what most people in Sikeston want in a bedroom, and it is the floor we sell more of than any other. It is warm, it is quiet, and it is the only surface that a child can sit on the floor and play on comfortably. The part that decides whether you are happy with it in five years is not usually the carpet you picked from the sample board — it is the pad underneath it and how well it was stretched. We bring the samples to your house, measure properly, take the old floor out, and fit it so the seams land where you will not look at them. Installed by our own crew across Gideon.

Built for Gideon homes.
Gideon started life in 1900 as a lumber company town and was platted in 1903, named after Frank Gideon, a businessman in the timber trade. About 780 people live here now, down from a peak of over 1,750 in 1950. It is a small town in the western Bootheel at the junction of Routes 153 and 162, and its housing still reflects its mill-town origins — modest, closely spaced, and mostly built to house working families.
Gideon recorded 780 residents at the 2020 census, having peaked at 1,754 in 1950. The town began in 1900 as a lumber company town, was platted in 1903 and named for Frank Gideon, and sits at an elevation of 266 feet at the junction of Missouri Routes 153 and 162.
There is a certain irony in a former lumber town where solid hardwood is rarely the right answer today, but that is the honest position. Mill-town houses were built modestly and many now sit on wood subfloors that have been down for the better part of a century. On a base like that, a floating luxury vinyl plank or a good laminate over the right underlayment usually gives a better and longer-lasting result than nailing down solid wood.
Compact houses also reward getting the plank direction right. In a small room, running the boards along the longest sightline makes the space read larger, and running them the other way makes it read smaller. It costs nothing to get that decision right and it cannot be undone afterwards, so we talk it through at the measure rather than deciding for you on install day.
We do not carry hardwood installation or refinishing as services, so if solid wood really is what a Gideon house needs, we will say so rather than steer you into something we do fit.
Carpet jobs near Gideon
Carpet in Gideon, questions
Do you install or refinish hardwood?
No — that is not one of our services, and we would rather tell you that up front than take the job and sub it out. We fit carpet, luxury vinyl plank, laminate, tile, stairs and trim, and we handle floor removal and demo.
What works best in a small older house?
Usually a floating luxury vinyl plank or a laminate over the right underlayment. Many houses in Gideon have wood subfloors that have been in place a very long time, and a floating floor copes with that base better than anything nailed down.
How much carpet do I actually need?
More than the room measurement suggests. Carpet comes in fixed roll widths, so the amount you buy depends on how the room lays out against that width, and there is always some waste. We measure the rooms at the estimate and give you a written figure based on the real layout rather than a square-foot guess.
Nylon or polyester?
Nylon recovers better under heavy traffic and furniture, so it suits hallways, stairs and busy family rooms. Polyester holds colour well, resists stains and is usually better value in a bedroom. We will bring both so you can feel the difference rather than take our word for it.
Can you carpet just one bedroom?
Yes. There is no minimum number of rooms. A single bedroom is a perfectly normal job and we would rather do one room well than talk you into more than you wanted.
Will you move the furniture?
Talk to us about it at the measure. We can usually handle normal household furniture as part of the job; things like a full waterbed, a gun safe or a piano need to be arranged separately so we can plan for it rather than discover it on the day.
