Gideon started life in 1900 as a lumber company town and was platted in 1903, named after Frank Gideon, a businessman in the timber trade. About 780 people live here now, down from a peak of over 1,750 in 1950. It is a small town in the western Bootheel at the junction of Routes 153 and 162, and its housing still reflects its mill-town origins — modest, closely spaced, and mostly built to house working families.
Gideon recorded 780 residents at the 2020 census, having peaked at 1,754 in 1950. The town began in 1900 as a lumber company town, was platted in 1903 and named for Frank Gideon, and sits at an elevation of 266 feet at the junction of Missouri Routes 153 and 162.
There is a certain irony in a former lumber town where solid hardwood is rarely the right answer today, but that is the honest position. Mill-town houses were built modestly and many now sit on wood subfloors that have been down for the better part of a century. On a base like that, a floating luxury vinyl plank or a good laminate over the right underlayment usually gives a better and longer-lasting result than nailing down solid wood.

Why is there a gap under our shoe mould?
Deliberately, in most cases — a floating floor needs an expansion gap at the wall, and shoe mould hides it. The mould is fastened to the wall rather than the floor so the floor can still move. If the gap is visible, that is a fitting problem rather than a design one.
